Bangladesh: Eyewitnessaccount from the Revolution. My daughter I and got caught in it while traveling around the country in July-August 2024.

Eyewitness Account from a Bangladesh Where the Future is Uncertain and Even the Coming Days Are Unpredictable

We saw a large group of angry people in front of a small shop. They were loudly arguing with the owner. He had supported the now-ousted government, and the crowd wanted him to close his shop.

We were supposed to cross the Ganges by boat yesterday. But all the speedboats were owned by supporters of the previous government, and they had stayed away from their businesses out of fear for their safety.

Unfortunately, the news reports that more than 20 leaders of the ousted party have been murdered. Those who did not leave the country with the prime minister are now not allowed to leave at all, and democracy and the rule of law do not seem to apply to politicians who have lost power.

This is what the joy of victory and hope for the future can look like.

We sought shelter from the violent protests that have killed hundreds in clashes between students, police, and a chaotic mix of the ruling party’s youth wing, the opposition, and a number of anti-academic and Islamist elements
