Tailor-made clothing in Bangladesh

Women and family life in Bangladeshi village – also during the political unrest and curfews right now. People’s hospitality is always touching and the women here welcome us with open arms. We decided to get a traditional three-piece in the village with the help of our hosts – 1. Choosing between so many colorful fabrics. This is in the shop in the village street with boutiques. The man selling the fabrics. 2. Going to the home of him and his wife as she is the tailor and then measure us and sow the clothes on her Singer (remember that brand?) 3. Try out the clothes at home. It’s so simple that trousers and blouse/ dress can be turned both ways (!) – surprisingly as we are not shaped like that – It’s very comfortable. We try them on with Munni who helped us buy these – and the make sure we have a picture also where we are the same height as her

We have clearly shown we are from a Danish culture with other clothes and been respected for this. Now we are trying this and being really welcomed for doing this as well. It’s always a part of traveling as women. More so than for men traveling. I recommend to try if you feel comfortable and it makes sense in the culture and circumstances that you travel in. It opens doors in the right circumstances.
