Kina / China. Gobi desert. Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring.
WOW. Giving ourselves wings – today by flying a glider ! Lærke was cool and could not wait whereas I had to take a deep breath and find my courage. When I saw the view, I forgot to worry and really enjoyed it. … and was proud afterwards.
In the Gobi Desert 🐪we find the moon shaped lake next to a temple. Its a unesco geo parc and my thoughts were pristine nature. Though in this wast desert there is also room for Chinese tourism and the infrastructure that comes with it.
So this place turned out to be the fun parc of the desert 🏜️
We went gliding to see the desert from above and it was so beautiful and huge with sand dunes reminding me of Namibia.
We also took the obligatory ride on the camels 🐫 as this is the thing to do for all the Chinese visitors.
In Sudan, Lucy Shoe, AJ Andrina and I rented 3 out of 4 camels at the Meroe Pyramids. Here there were thousands of camels 🐫. They had numbers and a system where the number of the camel and your tickets had to fit to ensure they know how much each camel was carrying and resting. So many camels that they found it fun with road lights
Gliders. Helicopters. Hot air balloons. Off roaders. Camels. Dances. Sunsets. 🌅
& dressing up as traditional Chinese prinsesses, belly dancers, manga characters and having photos taken where everyone else is the edited out afterwards 🤫😇🤞🏼😅🤣🎭
Clearly Chinese social media recommend this place for its sunset. 🌅 we never saw so many people hiking up sand dunes to enjoy sunset next to all the others.
NomadMania has this place listed as Bizzarium and rightfully so.
Some Chinese guests came here for afternoon and sunset after visiting the
the UNESCO World Heritage Site Magao, where Buddhism had arrived in China from India and brought relief from the hardships of life. 500 caves in the cliffs with carved buddhas inside remain and remind us.
Deeper in the desert we later visited the remains of the Chinese Wall from the Han Dynasty to protect against the Huns from Mongolia. Also UNESCO. In the midst of a dessert so easy that only now it started to dawn on me how hard it must have been for the first traders on the Silk Road to cross this desert.
