This place is special as lead by Panchen Lama. It’s one of the two biggest lamas. This is the one who lives in mainland China. Panchen Lama traditionally participate in choosing the next reincarnation of Dalai Lama.

Our roadtrip. Continues from the as this is a middle stop between Lhasa and Mount Everest Base Camp.

This last part becomes way more easy and comfortable as one week ago they opened the new highway between Shigatse and Lhasa. It takes only 4 hours now compared to the more scenic 8-10 hours we used for this distance the other way. The original road was even more slowly as it was defined by religious energies by the monks. The new highway is mostly tunnels through the mountains l. I have never driven a distance with this many, frequent and long tunnels.
A little claustrophobic and I remembered my father’s info on emergencies in tunnels where they become blocked and the oxygen eaten by fires. These tunnels seemed to have been build with all modern fire and emergency 🆘 equipment.
